I’d like to have space under this jacket for a layer or two or winter clothes, but would a large be to large I usually wear a size usa men's medium so should i go true to size and get a medium for the ashby or size up because i heard that it fits slimmer than most barbour jackets Any thoughts or advice on sizing up/down and getting the best fit with this ashby style

Winter wants nothing to do with damon but it all works out eventually. I was looking for a good thin waterproof yet breathable jacket for spring and fall, and i do not want a waxed jacket I don't know barbour very well. The ashby is slightly more fitted in the chest, could probably only get away with a medium weight sweater to layer and remain comfortable
Sapper was definitely much heftier with the insulation but still offered a slim fit
For the sapper i could probably layer a hoodie underneath without much issue Both fit pics are in size medium. The ashby + a shetland sweater gets you down to maybe 45 degrees f at the coldest Nyc has been having a really mild late fall (you could have worn it yesterday or today), but you’d be pretty uncomfortable in january or february with it.
I mailed back to barbour and got the sleeves replaced with the cotton tartan lining (also rewaxed at the same time) Highly recommend if you haven't already. I am deciding between the waxed bedale or waxed ashby for my first jacket and i had some questions
